A Day to Remember

Reception children have enjoyed exploring the meaning of Remembrance Day. We began the week by reading the story “A Day To Remember,” by Beth and Karl Eastham.  This taught us why people wear poppies. Rahma explained we wear them, “to remember the soldiers in the war.”

We explored lots of creative opportunities as we made our Poppy Fields after listening to the poem by John McCrae, “In Flanders Fields.”  We also made poppies in a variety of ways including deconstructed poppies and 3D playdough poppies. We finished the week by observing the two minute silence in which the children all made us feel really proud.
